Upcoming Events in August

LHP members may be interested in three upcoming lunchtime events in Wellington this month.

The first two are films showing at the New Zealand Film Archive as part of their lunchtime “Soup and a Seat” programme. On Friday 23 August at 12.15pm “A Place to Stay: Salisbury Garden Court” (2009) directed & produced by LHP Commitee Member Marie Russell screens (http://www.filmarchive.org.nz/now-showing/a-place-to-stay-salisbury-garden-court/). The week after, on Friday 30 August, again at 12.15pm, “The Hatred Campaign” (1985) screens and also features a talk by producer Rod Prosser (http://www.filmarchive.org.nz/now-showing/the-hatred-campaign/).

And as part of a series of history talks looking at the social, urban and Māori history of Wellington at the Wellington Public Library LHP Committee Member and newsletter designer Jared Davidson talks about “Radical Wellington: Philip Josephs, the Freedom Group & the Great Strike of 1913” on 21 August at 12:30pm  (http://www.wcl.govt.nz/blog/index.php/2013/07/12/history-for-lunch/).
