Strike! Industrial Disputes on Film

Labour History Project members in Wellington may be interested in this continuing education course offered at Victoria University of Wellington.

The strike is the moment at which power relationships in the workplace are thrown into stark relief. The dramatic confrontations that ensue when workers defy the customary regime of the employer have inspired several gripping films. You will study an international selection of these films, both fictional and documentary, locating the disputes in their historical context and highlighting the issues involved.

Russell Campbell is Adjunct Professor of Film at Victoria University. He is an author and documentary filmmaker.

Thursdays 19 September to 24 October (6 sessions), 6.30pm–9pm, Fee: $180 ($162).
